Good on you PE, you are now experiencing real life without the Watchtower mind shackles! I also voted this morning, at 7am.
Jook, yes I think that eating black pudding is the acid test for how far you have come in getting rid of indoctrination. A disk of fried black pudding on crustless bread topped with a slice of apple makes for a good starter. (ideal when the CO comes to dinner)

Wanting Less Involvement (long newbie story)
by DepthsResounding ini was raised a jw and am currently pioneer in a foreign language congregation.
i have been unhappy on and off with my involvement in this religion and am ready to step back again.
growing up i was always active but extremely reserved and a low hour publisher.

Hi DepthsResounding, welcome to the site and thanks for posting your interesting situation.
Yes it seems that a new dimension is forming in the JW Org which is not unlike that of the church believer where the JW enjoys the socializing but cares little for doctrine. Of course the governing will body fight tooth and nail to oppose this evolutionary development because they need total control to sustain their power-base and a mere loose affiliation of members would deny them that.
By the way, I also had similar apologetics for the WT when I was a believer, with the Bible to be read as aspiration not taken literally. I didn't believe in a real devil for example, I read him as an embodiment of opposition or in the cases of exorcism; mental illness. With your insight into these things already, I don't imagine a person can in good conscience last long as a JW!
I agree with the posters above who would not in favour marriage at this stage and certainly not as a mechanism to escape the mind/life control of the organisation. The best way to resolve an issue is not to mix it up with other concerns.
So may I suggest that to get your life in order you determine what you most want and in what sequence you need to do things to achieve it. Surely the first thing is to remove yourself from obligations to the (grossly undeserved) authority of the GB? To do this it is vital to reduce your commitments. Pioneering surely is the first pin to fall then cool down on meetings and preaching--do you really believe in your heart that the JW dream is real? If you slowly fade and avoid saying you no longer believe in the GB, you should be able to come away without punishment. No one deserves being ostracised for holding beliefs in the 21st century!
In the meantime, find sympathetic friends who are not JWs, this is a very important stage in acclimatizing to the real world.
I hope I don't sound too preachy but I have been in your shoes and also have a daughter about your age still trapped, single and not flourishing.

Unbalanced misfits and worse still more paedophiles might see a warm welcome in an anti JW campaign?
However that isn't our problem, as you say Outlaw, it's a matter of targeting those waking up and helping them leave. Easier said than done. . .

I took a Watchtower Rag !
by Phizzy ini accepted a wt mag/rag from a bro i have known for decades just to be polite.
i asked him if he would like my comments on it sometime, he said he would listen, (yea maybe he will hear, but not really listen and absorb what i have to say.).
the interesting thing is, they are getting better, the borg, there was only one "half quote" where they select what they want from a source, and ignore the rest of what the source says.. and only one blatant lie.. it was the mag about the 4 horsemen, and a supplementary article makes the false claim that " archaeology repeatedly supports the bible's historical accuracy".. this is typical jw borg propaganda speak.

To be a Jehovah's Witness is to live a life in denial of reality. Forget reason or evidence, the Watchtower deliberately forgets them!
Ignore clear thinking, despise education and achievement because as a JW you can luxuriate in that species of happiness which comes from being servile to the cult masters in the way that dogs feel rewarded for obedience.
Woof woof!

Firstly I want to say congratulations to you and your wife for escaping and welcome to the site here!
When newly out of mind control most of us have the desire to help our former trapped inmates. It is good that you propose an idea but I fear it would miss the mark since it is addressed to the public, most of whom don't care a fig about JWs.
The problem of rescuing our old comrades is one which crops up all the time on exJW sites because it is such an important issue to discuss. How to rescue the trapped and avoid the heartache of remaining embroiled in the cult?
One way which is found to work is to play the long game with individuals; never criticise the org...to do so is like puncturing their inflatable lifeboat... and live a happy and useful life after departure from the organisation. It doesn't have the drama of your suggestion admittedly but JWs expect apostates to turn into libertine hedonists as a matter of course.
Perhaps a national awareness campaign day, highlighting the JW mind control and end of world scam along with their paedophilia issues, could be organised through various arms of the media? I fear this too might only attract more nutty followers in the aftermath!

Congratulations Awakened J17, you are an encouragement to us and you can be proud of yourself because it's often hard to break free. You have done a surprisingly positive thing as I think you will find out. The more individuals who see your example and escape from this harmful cult; the greater the speed of decline of the JWOrg.
You now can enjoy your own choice of life and be happy in doing so. You have already joined the apostate summer convention where the motto is "Give up now!"

We do sound like a cult
by notalone in"we do sound like a cult..." so in the last few conversations i have had with my still deeply in friend she has mentioned this a couple times when lamenting things that don't seem right.
she has a relative that left and is telling everyone jw's are a cult.
she is very defensive and deeply disturbed by this accusation.

The the poor simple fellow jumped out of one cult straight into another. Some people are destined to be cult members!
And remember it is only the cult members who cannot see they belong to a cult.................

How can angels be sexually attracted to women?
by Island Man inthe nephilim account in genesis is utterly ridiculous when you consider that angels are sex-less beings and would therefore lack sex-drive and romantic attraction.
think of how difficult it is for humans with a sex drive to be sexually attracted to animals.
now take away that sex drive and it becomes literally impossible.

As you know Island Man, you can't hit myth with facts!
It's like saying Goofy had an affair with Mini Mouse........I can't think of anything more irrelevant. But indeed we all were once bothered by these stupid beliefs of angels, gods and demons. The joy of having grown out of this primary school talk.
